MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was shot in North Memphis and died on the scene, police said.
Family identified the deceased as Frederick Richardson.
Police responded to the shooting in the 1400 block of Decatur Street. There, they found a gunshot victim and .40 caliber shell casings on the ground. Witnesses say Richardson was in his front yard, more than 1,200 feet from the shooter when he was shot in the head.
Richardson’s cousin, Willy Gant, witnessed the shooting and said he held Richardson after, looking for a pulse but not finding one.
A witness told WREG some women were involved in a fight earlier in the day, and a man armed with two guns came back later and opened fire in the street. The person shot, Richardson, was a bystander and not involved in the fight, according to family and witnesses. Police believe that is the case as well.
Police described the suspects as a group of three women and two men in a white Chrysler convertible.
No one is in custody at this time.
