MEMPHIS, Tenn. — WREG obtained several mug shots of Josef Schnabl taken over the years in Shelby County, but his criminal record crosses state lines.
On Your Side Investigators uncovered Schnabl spent time locked up in South Carolina, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee. He faced manslaughter, assault, burglary and theft charges.
Schnabl was also convicted of a second-degree murder charge in Memphis from 2001. That file is so large that it’s being kept in off-site storage.
Marshall County deputies warned law enforcement agencies the suspect does not like police or any group with authority.
The public was also made aware Schnabl is likely armed with a .40-caliber handgun and 75 rounds of ammo.
Police believed he was headed to Shelby County to see his son and his child’s mother.
Schnabl was released from jail on parole in October from a five-year sentence in Mississippi where he was found guilty of theft.
His family told WREG they have given him second chances in the past, but they will likely never forgive him for this.
“You can only give a person so many chances and invite them into your home and then they stab you every time,” Janet Schnabl said.
If you see Josef Schnabl, call police right away. He left in a 2014 Chevrolet pickup with Mississippi tag T702D.
