MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The 6-year-old killed while in the care of a 14-year-old while her foster mother was at work has been identified.

Memphis Police responded to a home on Beaver Trail on December 23 and found Destine King on the floor unresponsive.

Police were told she had two other children, ages 7 and 9, who were being watched by the older teen.

King had a swollen and bruised face, but so far police are not sure of the cause of the injuries.

She was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition and later died.

The other two children were also injured while in the teen’s care.

Both were admitted to the hospital.

Since then they have both been released and placed in the care of the Department of Child Services.

The 14-year-old was arrested and charged with three counts of criminal attempt felony to wit first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated child abuse, two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of coercion of a witness.

The cause of death for the 6-year-old has not been determined at this point, and thus this investigation has been classified as a death investigation.

At this time, WREG will not disclose the identify of the 14-year-old.
