MEMPHIS, Tenn. — With wintry weather moving through the Mid-South, the Shelby County Office of Preparedness said they are ready.
“We’ll be staying in close contact with the National Weather Service and the Memphis Office of Emergency Management. Public works crews will put brine down tonight. Salt and sand trucks are also ready,” said Dale Lane, the Director of the Shelby County Office of Preparedness.
Mayor Mark Luttrell advised motorists to go ahead and add a little extra time to your commute, as road conditions could be icy.
The department also listed some tips to make sure the weather doesn’t get you down.
They said it would be a good idea to check your emergency kits before the snow and ice hits.
You should have one at home, at work and inside your vehicle, and they should be stocked with adequate supplies.
In addition, make sure you have all the tools you need inside your car like an ice scraper and kitty litter/sand, and check your brakes, battery, lights and antifreeze levels.
It’s also a good idea to have extra cold weather clothing in your car just in case you get stuck.
Once you hit the road, use roadways frequently traveled and be sure to keep in touch with friends and families.
