MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The TBI announced they are no longer searching for the second person present when a Memphis man was shot and killed by police.
According to the TBI, they have spoken with the person and taken a statement.
Investigators say he is not in law enforcement custody and not facing charges.
They said because of that they are not in a position to release or confirm his identity.
Investigators says the man was inside the car when Johnathan Bratcher led police on a chase Wednesday afternoon.
After the vehicle crashed, the two men reportedly jumped out of the vehicle and started running from police.
According to the TBI, Bratcher turned and opened fire on police, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.
Bratcher late died.
The TBI immediately took over the investigation.
“At the conclusion of that investigation, hopefully that investigation will be made public,” Police Director Toney Armstrong said when asked about the case.
