MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It’s known for being a quiet shopping center, which has those who spend time there unnerved.

Police said the Germantown shopping center on Exeter Road was the scene of an armed robbery Saturday night.

Police are looking for the suspect.

Police said two female Dollar Tree employees were walking to their car after closing the store, when a stranger dressed in camouflage pulled up and aimed his gun.

He demanded the store’s deposit bag, which was full of cash,  and got away.

“We never have a problem anywhere around here. It’s known as a very safe neighborhood,” said Jesse Hutchens, who shops in the area.

She had just left the Dollar Tree when we spoke to her and was upset someone could do that to the friendly employees who work there.

She’s just happy everyone is okay.

“They’ve always been very kind to us. Every time we’re in there,” said Hutchens.

Police canvassed the shopping center for evidence.

Apparently some employees at Jet’s Pizza saw the robber earlier in the night.

They told police he was lurking around the parking lot, and when one employee walked outside, he popped out of the bushes and asked to use the restroom.

“I do shop over there. I feel pretty safe over there. It’s well-lit. There’s guards there,” said David Hoard.

He told WREG someone tried to rob him once and said when something like that happens, you forever lose your sense of security

“You always need to be on guard. If you’re always on guard. You’re never caught off guard,” said Hoard.

No one with Jet’s Pizza or Dollar Tree would speak to WREG.

Police do not have a detailed description of the suspect.
