MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell confirmed to WREG’s Richard Ransom he will be running for Congress.
The District 8 seat represents the Shelby County suburbs and West Tennessee.
Luttrell told WREG last week he was seriously considering a run for the soon-to-be-open congressional seat.
Representative Stephen Fincher announced he would not be seeking re-election for a fourth term in early February.
Since the announcement, several leaders have come forward saying they would be interested in taking the lawmaker’s seat in Congress including Former U.S. Attorney David Kustoff, Doctor George Flinn, current state Senator Brian Kelsey of Germantown, Shelby County Commissioner Steve Basar, Shelby County Register of Deeds Tom Leatherwood and state Rep. Steve McManus.
Richard Ransom talked about Luttrell’s potential entry into the race on Informed Sources.
