MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A violent weekend in Memphis left 10 people shot, two people stabbed and three victims dead.
Darrell Aldridge, Ray Springfield and Jermaine Allen are dead.
Their names were added to the growing list of more than 40 people killed on the streets of Memphis in 2016.
“Boom, boom, boom. Like that,” Square Corbin described hearing gunshots.
Corbin and other neighbors told WREG they heard the shots that killed Aldridge on Saturday on Hicky Cove.
The 23-year-old man was found lying on the ground where a memorial now sits to remember his life.
The two men responsible remained on the run Monday night.
“It would help if they would change for one weekend,” Corbin said.
On Sunday night in Whitehaven, a family was in pain.
“My mind just went blank. I mean I couldn’t even think,” Ray Springfield Sr. said.
The concerned father learned his son, 19-year-old Ray Springfield Jr. was stabbed in the neck on Cresser Street.
“It is not easy. It’s not easy,” Springfield Sr. said. “It’s like your soul is gone. Like somebody took something from you, or somebody is trying to take something from you. It’s an ugly, eerie feeling that I can’t even describe.”
Police said Vincent Roberts, 19, turned himself in for the crime late Sunday night and admitted to killing Ray Springfield Jr. after a fight.
Later that night in Orange Mound, another father grieved.
“There’s a bullet hole here. There’s a bullet hole in the TV,” Carl Allen Sr. said.
Allen’s son was murdered at a home on Baltimore Street.
Jermaine Allen, 42, was found lying dead in the front yard after an apparent fight in the home.
Jermaine Allen is a father of two girls.
Family members said his children had left home moments before the shooting happened.
“Jermaine was headstrong. He was my son, but he was headstrong,” Allen Sr. said. “He was — he would fight as you can see. He had his own ways.”
Police are still searching for Jermaine Allen’s killers.
“I’m very concerned. Very concerned,” a neighbor said.
Some who live nearby the shootings that occurred over the weekend are scared after three lives were snatched away in Memphis in under 48 hours.
