CLARSKDALE, Miss. — The family of the officer who was shot in Clarksdale while responding to a robbery told WREG Corporal Derrick Couch was taken off of life support on Tuesday.
He is reportedly breathing on his own and even talking.
It’s just the latest good news to come from the family as Couch recovers in a local hospital.
In February, Couch’s father told us he had opened his eyes and given a thumbs-up sign.
Police said Couch was severely injured after Leandrew Booker and Johnny Robinson robbed the Corner Grocery Store in Clarksdale.
Couch was shot in the head when he tried to apprehend Robinson.
Booker, 20, faces additional charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and armed robbery.
Robinson was charged with attempted murder and two counts of armed robbery.
Clarksdale Police also added a charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
Both cases have been bound over to a grand jury.
