MEMPHIS, Tenn. — We have good news for the Clarksdale community: A police officer shot in the face during the investigation of an armed robbery last month is out of intensive care.
Cpl. Derrick Couch continues to recover in physical therapy.
Clarksdale Mayor Bill Luckett told the Clarion-Ledger Couch has taken a few steps and shows signs of improvement every day.
He has also spoken a few words, though they are not yet coherent.
Couch lost an eye and suffered some brain damage when he was shot on duty last month.
