MEMPHIS, Tenn. —  A Cricket store near Lamar and I-240 called for help Tuesday evening.  An employee told police someone wearing a mask barged in the front door, flashed a gun and swiped the cash.

The robber took off running and was last seen on North Harris Circle right behind the store.

One man who lives on the block told us he saw a person sprinting down the road so he grabbed his granddaughter, went inside and locked the door.

Other neighbors did the same.

“The police been walking around, looking, answering questions,” said Jimmie Lee Thomas.

Police set up a perimeter, combed the streets, and gathered clues for hours all while shoppers felt uneasy.

“You never want that type of thing to happen where you stay at, because if he can going into a building in broad daylight he can rob you on the street,” said Monica Chisom.

Police on the scene couldn’t tell us much about the robber.

They didn’t even know if the crook was a man or woman.

Officers did ask for security footage from nearby stores though.

They’re using every avenue available to solve this brazen crime.
