MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A group of high school seniors took a cross-country trip to help the Bluff City.
The students are from Rapid City, South Dakota, and they’re in Memphis this week, working at the Mid-South Food Bank. The students are here on a mission trip, and we’re told because of their efforts, hundreds of Mid-Southerners will benefit.
“The population of South Dakota is only about 700,000 people, so over half of our population is represented as hungry here in this area,” said Sean McPherson, who grew up near the Raleigh area and brought the teens down here.
He still has family here in the Mid-South. His brother is one of the pastors at a local church in Bartlett and provided sleeping arrangements for the students on their mission trip.
The food bank said 2,000 children are receiving weekend backpacks with six meals in each backpack every weekend.
