CROSS COUNTY, Ark. — A town in Cross County, Arkansas no longer has its own police department.

Cross County Sheriff J.R. Smith confirmed to WREG he received a letter from Mayor Willie Patterson on Thursday saying the Parkin Police Department was to be disbanded as of 4 p.m. today.

Smith said his office is taking calls until further notice.

According to KAIT, former Chief of Police Charles Wilson said he was told the department was closed due to a lack of funding.

Ten officers and four dispatchers are now without a job and an entire town without its police department.

WREG reached out to Mayor Patterson for comment.

He said he would speak with us on Friday.
