LAFAYETTE, Tenn. — Tennessee native and basketball Hall of Famer Nera White has died.
White passed away on Wednesday at Sumner Regional Medical Center at the age of 80.
White played high school basketball in Macon County and gained national recognition in the 50s and 60s as a member of the Nashville Business College team.
During her 15 seasons, she led the squad to 10 national championships.
White was named MVP when she led the U.S. National team to the 1957 World Championship.
Her team beat Russia in the title game.
White was the first woman selected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
A memorial service will be held in Lafayette.
