MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The MPD bomb squad investigated a suspicious item, believed to possibly be a bomb, on the University of Memphis campus and determined it is a “hoax device.”

The university notified police at about 6 p.m. Friday about a suspicious item located inside the FedEx Institute of Technology on 365 Innovation Drive.

It was an unattended propane tank, according to the University of Memphis.

UofM officers secured the area and notified the campus community.

The bomb squad determined the tank was not a threat, and police took it away.
