GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — Germantown police confirmed one of their officers is back on the job after serving a five-day suspension following a range of complaints from citizens.
Police said Officer Chris Torrence returned to the force from medical leave March 30 and immediately began his suspension, which has now been completed.
In September, dash cam video showed Torrence stopping a man sleeping in his car on suspicion of drunk driving.
Torrence pulled the man out of his car and handcuffed him in front of his wife and kids, holding him for more than an hour.
In another incident, Torrence allegedly held a man at gunpoint after the man revealed he had a permit to carry a firearm.
“If the guy’s got a permit to carry a gun, he’s got a right to carry it,” said Spencer Brown, who himself carries a gun.
Torrence also allegedly pepper sprayed another man while he was being questioned on suspicion of drunk driving.
Germantown residents had mixed reactions when they learned Torrence would be returning to his police work.
“Being a minority, we always — you always have that in the back of your mind,” said one man.
“They got a job to do and they do it well, but you’ve got some that get excited,” said Brown.
