MINNEAPOLIS — Landmarks in Minnesota glowed purple the day Prince died, but purple may light up Minnesota for much longer as the official state color.
State Sen. Karin Housley told the Twin Cities Pioneer Press she drafted a bill to make purple the state color in honor of the music legend.
She said she will introduce the bill Monday.
Twenty-three states have official colors, but none are purple, Housley said.
“Seeing the world all lit up purple makes me very, very proud,” she told the Pioneer Press. Turning that sentiment into an official color for the state, she said, would be a wonderful way to honor “a man that was born, raised, lived and died in Minnesota and gave so much to the people of our state as an artist and member of our community.”
