MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A sexual assault reported at Wooddale High School is under investigation.
Investigators said the alleged assault happened back in March but they were notified last week.
Deputies said the accused student could face charges.
“It is important. You shouldn’t keep that away from anybody because it can also affect you. It can hurt you inside,” said Charity Robinson.
Charity is a student at Woodale. She said she hadn’t heard of any sexual assaults on campus but believes the victim did the right thing to speak up.
“You be beating yourself up about why I didn’t tell or why I didn’t let anyone know.”
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said the female student told her mother she was inappropriately groped by another female student in the bathroom back in March. According to deputies she told her mother last Thursday. Deputies began investigating the next day.
Detectives are not releasing the ages of the students.
“A child should be represented to be protected in school,” said parent Sharon Robinson.
Shelby County Schools released the following statement:
School administrators were informed of an alleged assault involving two students and followed District procedures by immediately contacting law enforcement. The parents of the two students involved were informed of the situation by school staff. This is currently under investigation.
Charity said perhaps this case will help other students.
“Anybody else it could happen. It could happen to someone else and if you don’t stop it in its tracks it will never stop.”
