MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is behind bars accused of helping several suspects get away after they brutally attacked an ice cream man in Hickory Hill.

Dontevious Stewart is charged with accessory after the fact.

Police said they found clothing worn by suspects in his apartment.

The arrest has not eased the victim’s concerns. He told WREG he fears for his life.

“They wanted to kill me for no reason. They took my money,” said Mamadou Bah.

Bah was attacked inside an apartment complex off Hickory Hill in East Memphis.

He was kicked, punched and beat with a baseball bat.

Police said the attackers are still out there.

Today, officers released a picture of their getaway car: a red, late-model Pontiac Grand Am with Mississippi tags PAV492.

“I did nothing to these guys. I have never seen them before. I don’t know them,” said Bah.

As WREG talked to Bah, it was easy to see he’s still suffering.

Sometimes he just sat in silence, but then he was reminded how many care.

A line of ice cream trucks rolled in.

His coworkers surprised him with flowers and balloons.

Bah broke down with tears of joy.

“We all love you and we miss you!” said one coworker as he gave him a hug.

For a moment, a man who has been through so much was able to forget the long road ahead.

Bah will go back to the hospital on Monday.

That’s when he will find out how serious his injuries are.

Bah said he’s more concerned about his family in West Africa, because without a job, he doesn’t know how he will support them.
