MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man has been charged with trying to carjack two undercover Shelby County deputies.
Eugene White was charged with carjacking.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said three undercover deputies were in a pickup truck, working in the 3300 block of Adeline St. around 11 p.m. Monday when two men approached them and tried to rob them.
One of the men reportedly was armed.
“The third undercover officer in the back seat fired four shots through the passenger driver side window and the individual who had the gun fled on foot along with the other individual,” said Earle Farrell with the department.
A deputy was hit by flying glass from a window that was shattered.
The deputy was taken to the Regional Medical Center where he received stitches for cuts to his arm.
Deputies said White showed up at a hospital with a wound, possibly from gun powder residue.
He left before he could be treated, but was later arrested.
The other suspect is still at large.
The deputies involved will be placed on leave which is standard procedure.
