MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Many Shelby County School students will be back on the bus when class resumes in four days.

The district is asking parents to double check their children’s bus assignments over the next few days for any possible changes.

“It terrifies me sometimes, you know?” said soon-to-be ninth grader Nyesha Williams.

She told WREG she has her worries about school bus safety, especially given headlines bus provider, Durham, has made before.

She is not yet sure of her bus assignment for this upcoming school year.

“We are asking our parents to please call and check their bus routes or their bus assignments that they received either Monday or Tuesday,” said SCS spokesperson Kristin Tallent.

Tallent said there will be staff standing by during special hours Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so parents can call and confirm.

Back-to-school bus schedules can be confusing every year.

She said there may have been adjustments even as recently as this week.

Tallent said buses have been doing dry runs this week to prepare.

Parents can call the district to check on bus assignments and routes at 901-416-6077.

Staff will be standing by Friday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Parents can also email scstransportation@scsk12.org.

WREG reached out to Durham Thursday about back-to-school preparations, but we had not heard back as of late Thursday afternoon.
