MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Tennessee’s Achievement School District has been the target of many critics, and now there’s a new one: the state comptroller.
A state audit revealed deficiencies in how the district keeps track of your tax dollars it spends — about $750,000!
The 54-page audit released Wednesday shows some of the money ASD gets is going to things like travel and paying former employees who don’t even work there anymore.
It’s not the first time the state comptroller’s office has given ASD poor marks. Since 2013, the state said it’s found more than $720,000 in questionable costs when auditing the district.
