MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two men are behind bars in Memphis and indicted on murder charges related to the killing of a Memphis man at Tennessee State University.
Christopher Gatewood and Robert Tunstall, both 20, were arrested in Memphis.
U.S. Marshals found Gatewood at his mother’s home in southeast Memphis.
Tunstall was taken into custody after visiting a Memphis parole officer he had for a previous felony conviction.
The murder happened in October 2015. Investigators learned the shooting stemmed from a dice game.
Cameron Selmon, 19, was shot and killed outside TSU’s Campus Center.
Three others, whom police said were 18-year-old students passing by, were also hurt, but not seriously injured.
A Davidson County Grand Jury indicted both on one count of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted second-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of violating Tennessee’s Crooks with Guns statute and one count of felony reckless endangerment.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office helped Metro Nashville Police in their investigation, as investigators believed the suspects fled to Memphis.
Gatewood and Tunstall will be extradited to the jail in Nashville.
Selmon’s mother, Stacie Payne, said she is relieved and overwhelmed.
“Just knowing that they have been arrested. I’m not saying it’s going to bring me closure, but I think it’s going to help get on with another chapter,” said Payne.
After hearing news of the arrest she posted on Facebook saying in part, “thank you God.”
