SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Police say scammers have found a new tool to push their con.
“We don’t call people. We will call you on a warrant and ask you to come here. We will never ask for money to be shipped to us. No other police department I know works like that,” said Southaven Police Detective Mark Little.
He said people are using free calling apps to pose as law enforcement agencies.
Little said it’s all a ploy to get one over on people.
They said don’t fall for it.
Southaven Police told WREG on Friday, they received a call referencing their station.
They said they plan to follow up with them.
“If someone calls and says they are with Southaven Police and they claim there is a warrant for your arrest, get a name and number and call that location,” added Little.
The Sheriff’s Office in Desoto and Tate Counties issued the same warning on social media.
They wanted you to know the newest scheme so you won’t get caught in the latest technology telephone trick making the rounds.
