MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A carjacking just feet from the Peabody ends with a police chase across two states.
A woman pulled over near Second and Union to escort her sister up to her room at the Holiday Inn Thursday around midnight.
She left her 8-year-old son and another woman in the backseat. They were sound asleep.
The two told police they woke up to strangers in the front seat and a man screaming at them to get out as the car started driving away.
It was pure luck an officer was close by. The woman flagged him down and he sent out a broadcast.
Minutes later, police spotted the victim’s car near BB King and Crump.
They said the driver wouldn’t pull over and led them on a chase up to the Mississippi line.
DeSoto County and Southaven law enforcement then took over and eventually caught a teenager, Lataijal McNeal and Octavius Childs.
Within the past week and a half, WREG found out there have been at least three carjackings in Downtown Memphis.
One of them at South Main and MLK. Police are looking for three suspects.
The same story just down the road near the National Civil Rights Museum at Talbot and Maulberry.
Police are trying to find out if the cases are connected.
