MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was rushed to the Regional Medical Center after receiving first and second-degree burns to his body during a house fire in East Memphis overnight.

The fire broke out around 4 a.m. Thursday in the 1000 block of Wellsville Road — which is near White Station Road and Park Ave.

Firefighters say two people were inside the house at the time. One of them had to be rescued.

That victim was taken to the Regional Medical Center for smoke inhalation and for sustaining severe burns to his arms, hand and face.

Lt. Wayne Cooke with the Memphis Fire Department said all three of the family’s pets were killed in the fire.

The fire, investigators said, was caused by an electrical malfunction in the dining room/den wall.
