SAVANNAH, Tenn. — Zach Adams’ fate is about to be in the hands of a jury.
He faces the death penalty if convicted of kidnapping, raping and murdering Holly Bobo over six years ago.
The jurors have heard nine days of testimony from both the state and defense to make their decision, but Adams himself decided not to take the stand.
Wednesday jurors heard the final testimony from the defense’s witnesses today and then had brief rebuttal testimony from the state.
That means they’ll hear closing arguments Thursday.
The defense has focused on poking holes in some of the state’s witness testimony, but more than anything, they’ve tried to put it in jurors’ minds that the wrong guy is being accused of this crime.
Defense attorneys have consistently brought up convicted rapist Terry Britt as being the person who did this, mentioning his history of rape, abduction and a shifty alibi.
But prosecutors say he was thoroughly investigated and these recent years have launched new information that points to Zach Adams and his codefendants as suspects.
This is supported by the testimony of Adams’ former friends, inmates and a suspected accomplice saying he talked about what happened to Bobo.
The actual evidence discussed the most Wednesday was cell phone records.
The state called an expert say Bobo’s phone was near Adams’ phone the day she disappeared…but the defense called an expert that said otherwise.
But the state did get this witness to talk about how Shayne Austin and Dylan Adams’ phones were turned off when Bobo disappeared, backing up their story Zach didn’t act alone.
