MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department was on the scene Wednesday of a shooting in the area of Central and Tanglewood near Central Gardens.
One man was found dead near the Skinner Recreational Center. A vehicle was located down a hill close to the scene.
MPD spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said that the occupants of a gold car and a black car had been exchanging gunfire while driving down the street.
Witnesses said they heard about a dozen shots and then the crash. They said the construction workers in the area dove for cover.
Police responded to a wreck at the scene around 1 p.m. When they arrived, they found the occupant of a gold car dead inside the vehicle.
Despite rumors of a random shooter in the area and more victims, Rudolph said she has no reports of that.
No one is in custody.
Police laid out evidence markers around the intersection of Central and McLean. They believe the shooting scene there is related to the dead man in the wrecked car.
At nearby Aldo’s pizza, an employee says they locked the door for a short time when they heard what happened but it’s business as usual now.
