MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department is searching for suspects in an overnight burglary at Walgreens on the 3300 block of Poplar Avenue in East Memphis.

Police have not arrested the three men yet, but a lot of people in the neighborhood are surprised they were able to pull a bold crime so easily.

WREG showed shoppers surveillance video of the three suspects cutting an iron gate and prying a glass door open.

“That is sad,” said Nebra King. Once they were inside, they smashed the pharmacy glass door and stole everything, including Aderall, Hydrocodone and Oxycontin.

All of the stolen drugs are controlled substances that are often resold on the street.

“It’s horrible. I mean just horrible and unconscionable,” said Stewart Brown.

With small trash cans in hand, the thieves ran out with almost $90,000 in prescription medication.

“Street value will be around $650,000 – $700,000 if it’s painkillers,” said Brown. “For people that are sick to have to go without because of greed is criminal.”

In a similar situation less than two weeks ago, three men broke into the Walgreens in the 3400 block of Elvis Presley Boulevard using a crowbar.

“It’s just sad that people have to live that way. It’ s sad that people work hard for their businesses and somebody’s going to come and take it away,,” said King. “That’s the kind of world we’re living in.”

Back in October, four people made off with at least $500,000 worth of prescription drugs at the Walgreens in the 1400 block of Union Avenue. The suspects put the stolen prescription medication in a small trash can as well.

“There’s a lot of good people that work in there, and there’s a lot of people that go by and get their medicine. For them to be hurt, that’s sad,” said King.

No arrests have been made at this point.
