MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The search is on for two men believed to be responsible for a shooting that had police investigating two crime scenes early Friday morning.
Memphis police said a man was shot in an East Memphis neighborhood, then showed up at a Parkway Village motel.
It began on an otherwise quiet block of Jamaica Avenue where police said a man was shot around 3 a.m. Friday.
“It’s safe. Good neighbors,” one neighbor said.
Neighbors tell WREG they heard about 10 gunshots, and hours later, police were still searching the street for shell casings.
Somehow that victim ended up at the Memphis Inn Motel on American Way in Parkway Village – a nine-minute drive away.
Police said he was had been shot several times and was found laying on the ground outside one of the rooms.
Andre Jackson, who’s been living at the motel for the past few years, said he had no clue what was going on just outside his door until he turned on the TV.
“‘ Til I seen you on the news,” he said. “I put on the TV and it was like ‘bam.’ I was like damn, all the tape and stuff was out here and that was it.”
Police towed away a dark grey Toyota Corolla from the motel’s parking lot, which appeared to have been hit by a at least one bullet.
In October of last year, a 36-year-old man died after being shot during a robbery at the same motel.
Rodmetris Lockridge and Cassie Kirkwood were charged with first-degree murder in that case.
Now, the people who call this motel home are faced with the decision to stay or find a new place to live.
“We’re discussing it now,” Jackson said. “Just to see if we’re going to leave or if we’re going to continue to be here.”
Police say the victim is expected to survive.
His name hasn’t been released.
