MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two men have been arrested after the pair reportedly fired at officers and crashed their vehicle in a Midtown neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.
Police said the officers were responding to an unrelated call near the corner of Chelsea and Woodlawn in North Memphis around 4 p.m. when the suspects drove up in a gray Chevrolet Impala and the passenger opened fire.
“Officers were doing their job, they were stopped when the suspects drove by and decided to shoot out the window towards the officers,” said Memphis Police Department spokeswoman Karen Rudolph.
The suspects crashed their car about 2.5 miles away at North Avalon and Forrest in Midtown, damaging two houses. The suspects then bailed out and ran.
“Clearly the car had run into a telephone pole and hit a fence and tore that area up,” said one witness.

The driver was taken into custody after a foot chase.
Ladarren Easley, 24, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, evading arrest and reckless driving.
The second suspect, who remains unidentified, was taken into custody around 11 a.m. Thursday.
One woman said both men jumped over her backyard fence and fired several rounds.
“At first it was a loud crash because they hit the pole first and then you just heard like firecrackers,” she said.
She said those firecrackers turned out to be gunshots. She estimated she heard three or four of them.
Police recovered two guns at the scene, including a Glock handgun with an extended 50-round magazine.
Easley told police the pair was attempting to fire at the driver of another vehicle and sped off when they saw police.
Officers are still looking for the passenger of the vehicle. The at large suspect is a male Black, possibly wearing black pants and a white tank top. If anyone has any information pertaining to this incident, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
