MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Three people have died after their house caught fire overnight. It happened at a home on Inman Cove off Standard Drive near Orange Mound. Investigators are still trying to figure out what sparked the fire. “I think it was around 3 or 4 in the morning. I heard a fire truck and ambulance,” said neighbor Justin Neely. Firefighters say they found five family members, two adults and three children, unconscious when they searched the home around 3:30 a.m.

“Our fire crews are disturbed at this time,” said MFD spokesperson Lt. Wayne Cooke. “This is devastating anytime that we have any victims. It’s devastating to us as well as to the families and the neighbors.” Lt. Cooke told WREG the adults were taken to the Regional Medical Center’s burn unit and the kids were hospitalized at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. 4-year-old Travis Murrell Junior, 43-year-old Patrice Graham and 66-year-old Patricia Baker later died. 13-year-old Christyon Johnson and 12-year-old Charles Johnson III remain in the ICU at Le Bonheur. Family members shared pictures of their loved ones as they held back tears. Firefighters were devastated too. They took a moment to kneel down in the front yard, joining in a prayer for the victims. “This is a family,” Lt. Cooke said. “What affects the community affects us, and when you see this type of devastation it brings us closer together. And united we will gather together and pray.” Investigators said the home was heavily damaged by smoke, and they’re still not sure if there was a working smoke alarm inside.
