Memphis, Tenn. — A man was shot outside of Family Dollar in Midtown during a road rage incident Saturday night, confirms the Memphis Police Department.
According to the report, Erik Greer, 38, and Demarcus Menzie, 49, were driving east bound on Madison Avenue in separate vehicles.
Greer was driving in a 2006 Mercury Marquis armed with two handguns.
Menzie was driving in a 20016 Nissan Rogue and was armed with one handgun.
At some point, the men became frustrated with each other’s driving, and the situation got heated.
Police say Greer then fired several rounds into Menzie’s vehicle in the 1700 block of Madison as they pulled up along side one another.
Menzie, who was shot in the left arm, dropped his handgun in the street without firing a shot.
Both men immediately drove away from the scene, and the police were then contacted.
Menzie was transported to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition. He has since been released.
Police closed the road between Auburndale Street and Evergreen Street while they investigated the shooting.
Greer has been charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. Menzie has been charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Police say the handgun Menzie had on him was stolen in a vehicle burglary on Oct. 24, 2017.
