MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A double shooting in northeast Memphis left one person dead and a second in the hospital.

It happened around 2 a.m. Tuesday on Country Trail Drive which is near Reese and Appling.

Edith Vasquez rushed to the neighborhood after she saw police cars and crime scene tape surrounding her nephew’s house.

“I called him, but he didn’t answer the phone.”

Police said they believe the incident started off as a robbery, but quickly turned violent. One person died from his injuries while the other victim was rushed to the Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Vasquez feared the worst, but soon found out her nephew was okay and talking to police.

“I feel better. I know he has problems, and has to pay the consequences.”

Neighbors told us the home is a known drug house, but it’s unclear if that played a role in the shooting.

Vasquez says police towed her nephew’s car, but she doesn’t know what led to the shooting.

Authorities said they are now searching for two suspects. They didn’t release any additional information.
