DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — The precautionary boil-water notice issued for Hernando residents has been lifted.
According to the city, the Mississippi Department of Health lifted the boil water alert Friday morning after determining the water is once again safe.
The city has been working throughout the night and has two pumps working to get water pressure up to all residents. Water pressure has returned to most households. Pleasant Hill area is located the farthest away from the pump station and this is the remaining area to be restored.

The notice was originally issue as the city worked to fix a mechanical issue with one of their pumps. An alderman told WREG a lightning strike hit a transformer and damaged the pump.
Administrators at Hernando Hills Elementary were not taking any chances on Thursday.
“The school sent out some robo calls this morning. I actually did not know about it until they called,” said mother Leslie Norris, who credited the school for their diligence.
A spokesperson with the Desoto County School District tellolds water fountains were disabled before students arrived on campus.
Restrooms could be used as normal. However instead of washing their hands, children were given hand sanitizer.
Students were also given bottled water to drink throughout the day and at lunch. More than 1,700 water bottles were donated by the Hernando Kroger.
“I’m glad they took the precautions that they took. I’m very thankful to Kroger for the water they donated,” Norris said.
The city of Hernando issued the boil-water notice for areas east of Della and Thousand Oaks, the Brights Water System.
We asked others, like Joyce Winters whose home is in the advisory area, if the warning has been an inconvenience.
“No not really. It may be later on in the night. They can get it fixed. I hope so,” she said.
