MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person was injured after reportedly jumping from the second story of an apartment building to escape an early morning fire Wednesday.

According to Lt. Wayne Cooke with the Memphis Fire Department, the man was transported to the hospital for an ankle injury but is expected to be okay.

At this point it is unclear what started the fire at the Cedar Mills Apartments, but it’s believed to have started in the leasing office. From there it quickly spread to a nearby building.

WREG’s Troy Washington was live on the scene and said there were approximately 12 fire trucks battling the blaze.

The roads around the apartment complex have been closed.
