MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police responded Wednesday morning to a home in northeast Memphis after a man who allegedly had shot into several nearby homes barricaded himself inside.

Around 2 p.m., police began evacuating neighbors as a precautionary measure and called for a TACT Unit.

By 3:30, police reported the suspect was in custody without incident.

According to authorities, they were attempting to make contact with the man inside a home in the 2100 block of Rock Ridge. No injuries have been reported.

Neighbors told us a man, fairly new to the block, had barricaded himself inside. They said he’s dangerous, owns several weapons and has been shooting at their homes for days.

Witnesses said the suspect has allegedly been shooting randomly into the homes at night. A witness also stated his son was grazed by one of those bullets when someone opened fire on his home several days ago.

“First it was just shots fired. Now, I believe the suspect has now taken aim at random individuals,” the witness said. “He begins firing shots at night from seven until daylight.”

He says Sunday night, he felt and heard a bullet fly by his head.

It apparently pierced his 15-year-old son’s bedroom window, and moments later he heard a scream.

“He shouted, because he felt immediate pain. He was taken to the hospital but was released the same day, because the bullet only scraped his hand. He’s still scared,” the father said.

Neighbors say police had been monitoring the home for a couple of days.

And since Wednesday morning, we saw police posted outside.

As the day went on, officers pushed everyone back, evacuated the neighborhood and worked to make contact with the man inside.

“My family is really, really terrified,” a neighbor said during the standoff.

Police noted there were at least four juveniles inside the home at the time.

The suspect was taken into custody without any incident. We are working to find out more about him.

At this point, the neighborhood remains blocked off. It’s unclear when neighbors will be able to return to their homes.
