MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A relatively new Whitehaven business became the victim of crime again over the weekend.
On Sunday, authorities released video from inside the Electrolyfe Juice Bar on Elvis Presley Boulevard that showed two men breaking into the business early Saturday morning. The men took off with two tablets and the cash register, which had about $600 in it.
Police said this is the second burglary at the business in the last two months. The owners, Quavisa Henderson and Eric Bland are at their wits end.
“Why are we being targeted? We don’t know,” they said.
Bland says it happens the same way every time. A glass door is smashed overnight and the cash register is always taken.
He thinks one of the suspects in the latest burglary is responsible for the other two burglaries.
During the first incident on August 16 a lone man robbed the business.
“We have to continue to pay for doors. We have to continue to buy registers,” Bland said.
He blames the lack of police presence and claims there are only 12 officers patrolling the Whitehaven area at night.
“The criminals are taking advantage of it. It’s like a free spree.”
MPD says patrols in the area have been stepped up. But for safety reason, the department won’t tell us how many officers normally patrol the area.
Henderson and Bland plan on hiring a security guard and spent the weekend at the gun range.
“Our livelihood depends on this,” Bland said.
