MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One man was rushed to the Regional Medical Center after a shooting Thursday in South Memphis.

According to authorities the incident happened in the 1900 block of Rile, near Martin Luther King Jr. Riverside Park.

People in the neighborhood say the victim was riding a Bird scooter when he was shot. That scooter was surrounded by crime scene tape and police confirmed it was part of the investigation.

The victim was able to run about 50 yards to the 1900 block of Farrington to get help.

He was taken to a hospital but police later reported he didn’t make it.

The suspect was reportedly driving a white Dodge Durango.

Police haven’t officially said what led up to the shooting but a law enforcement source says counterfeit money may have been involved.

People in the neighborhood say no one ever rides scooters in the area.

“There’s never been Bird scooters or other scooters over here! We just don’t do that around (here),” one man told us.
