MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was killed in a shooting at a troubled Whitehaven apartment complex Saturday night.
Homicide detectives were back at the Peppertree Apartments on Graceland Dr. Sunday morning investigating.
It marks the second shooting there since Friday.
People who live there described seeing Saturday’s massive scene from their windows.
“Looked outside, there was about 20 officers back here. And there was someone laying there, which I assume was a body – a dead body – laying halfway in the door and halfway out,” said one man who didn’t want to be identified.
Two days ago, another man was seriously hurt in a shooting at the apartments.
“It’s a generation of violence and it’s occurring all over America. It’s just getting worse,” that man said.
And this weekend’s shootings are just the latest in a string of violence there. In fact, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office has been monitoring the complex for years.
Last year alone, four people were shot at the Peppertree Apartments.
In January of 2018, a man was killed in a shooting there.
In June, another man was left fighting for his life after he was shot.
And people who live there were fed up after yet another man – just 18 years old – died after being shot in the head five months later.
The following month, a 19-year-old woman was killed in an accidental shooting.
Investigators say they have no suspects in this weekend’s shootings.
At last check, the man who was shot Friday was in critical condition. Memphis police weren’t able to provide an update Sunday.
Police haven’t released the victim’s name from Saturday’s shooting.
