MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 10-month-old child is safe after police say she was abducted from Whitehaven Tuesday afternoon.
It happened around 1 p.m. at S&W Coin-Op Laundry in the 4000 block of Horn Lake Road. Police say Sariah Newson was in a car with her mom and an acquaintance of her mom.
They say the mom went into the laundromat and when she came out, her car and child were gone.
Detectives say the acquaintance drove the child to Greenville, Mississippi. They’ve only identified the woman as “Ariel” and said they’ll release her full name after she’s extradited and charged.
Thankfully, the child is okay and is on her way back to Memphis.
A relative told WREG Sariah’s mother left her in the car with her friend because Sariah had been sick and she didn’t want her exposed to the rainy, cold weather.
Police are interviewing all witnesses and the mother to figure out how this all unfolded.
