SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — A man was shot dead and another man was stabbed in the 7100 block of Peppermill Drive in southeast Shelby County Sunday evening, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said.
The shooting victim, Jamarquis Hamilton, was pronounced dead on the scene. The stabbing victim was taken to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition.
Neighbors say the neighborhood is usually quiet. But on Sunday afternoon they heard upwards of 14 gunshots. “It just sounded like a, ‘bang, bang, bang.’ I came out, and I saw the young man laying in the yard,” a neighbor said.
The Hamilton family stayed close to each other behind the yellow tape, filled with questions about what happened.
“It’s scary, because my son could have been out here when it happened,” a neighbor said. Another neighbor told us there was arguing before the incident happened.
This is an ongoing investigation.
