MEMPHIS, Tenn. — From Heisman Trophy winner to first round NFL draft pick to quarterback of the Memphis Express — Johnny Manziel says he’s ready for his next and likely last opportunity.
Manziel was introduced as the new Memphis Express quarterback Tuesday afternoon with head coach Mike Singletary.
Manziel was a star at Texas A&M University and was drafted into the NFL by the Cleveland Browns in 2014. He last played with the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League before being kicked out of the CFL for violating the league’s code of conduct.
“In my mind, in my eyes I believe I’m here for a reason, and this was a great fit for me,” Manziel said.
Manziel frequently referenced how he is a changed person and in a better place. He said he wants to make this work and his goal to get back to the NFL.
The Memphis Express have started their inaugural season with a league-worst 1-5 start.
“Our guys are excited, the team is excited and I feel that many of the people in Memphis are excited,” coach Mike Singletary said.
