MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Several suspects have been detained after police say they attacked a man in front of a motel in southeast Memphis early Wednesday morning.
According to police, dispatch received a call from the Crowne Plaza Hotel in the 2600 block of Thousand Oaks Boulevard around 5:30 a.m. When they arrived they found a man had sustained an injury. He was rushed to the Regional Medical Center and treated.
During the investigation, police learned the victim was walking into the hotel when three men approached him and hit him in the head. The suspects took the man’s car keys, unlocked the vehicle and then stole his phone.
While on the scene covering this story, WREG’s Melissa Moon and her photographer Johnathan Knox were approached by three men asking what was going on.
After they walked away, Memphis police released a photo of the suspects, and that’s when our crew realized one of the men they had just spoken to matched the description of one of the wanted men.
They spotted the suspects getting into a white SUV and followed them from a safe distance while on the phone with police.
The suspects pulled in to the Quality Inn next door to Crowne Plaza and that’s where police took them into custody.
Police have not identified the suspects at this time.
