MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Three Memphis men have been sentenced to prison for killing a pizza delivery driver during a botched robbery.
The Shelby County district attorney’s office said 19-year-old Marquez Thompson, 18-year-old Charles McClellan and 26-year-old Leanthony Primer pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder and an attempted robbery charge.
Thompson was sentenced to 40 years in prison. He fired the shots that killed the driver, Mia Jones, in November 2016. McClellan and Primer each were sentenced to 20 years.
Investigators say the men ordered Domino’s Pizza to a Memphis address. Jones drove away when the homeowner said he didn’t order a pizza.
The men were waiting for Jones at an intersection and tried to open the car doors, which were locked. Thompson fired at Jones as she began to drive away.
Jones died at a hospital.
