OXFORD, Miss. — A federal judge has sentenced a Mississippi man to 15 years in prison for sex trafficking of a minor.
Authorities say U.S. District Judge Michael Mills sentenced 39-year-old Edward Daniels, of Oxford, on Thursday. Daniels pleaded guilty May 19 to the charge.
Oxford Police initially arrested Daniels on March 1, 2018, for a traffic violation. In the car, officers found drugs and a runaway juvenile from another county who was being trafficked for commercial sex acts.
In sentencing Daniels, Mills also ordered him to serve five years on probation and noted that he had “made the decision to lead a life of crime and take advantage of others.”
U.S. Attorney William C. Lamar said his office will continue to fight human trafficking, which he described as a “reprehensible crime.”
