MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is fighting for life in the hospital and a child is dead after two separate shootings in two days in one North Memphis neighborhood.
Police said officers were at the scene around 5 p.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Lagrange Avenue. After multiple shots were reportedly fired in the neighborhood, a woman was struck.
The woman was taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition.
“I seen she had got shot up in her arm, and that’s just crazy because it’s elders and kids and all of this, and ya’ll want to do all this shooting,” neighbor Lavante Parker said.
Memphis Police said the suspects in the shooting are two black men. One suspect had dreadlocks, a medium complexion and a black hoodie. Police were not able to give a description of the second suspect.
People in the neighborhood told WREG that children were in the area at the time of the shooting, but no child was hit.
Parker said he’s lived in the area on-and-off for years, and he’s fed up with the crime.
“It’s certain people that live in this community making it what it is or what people think it is, when it’s really not,” Parker said.
Memphis Police are still searching the block, looking for clues and talking to neighbors. But sadly, authorities are all too familiar with the area.
Just around the corner on Looney Avenue, police are looking into another shooting that killed a 13-year-old boy Friday.
Parker said he knows how it feels to lose people close to him in the neighborhood.
“To come back and see stuff like this, it just breaks my heart,” he said. “Shooting young folks and old people. That’s just crazy.”
