MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Some residents living in the Cooper-Young area are now fearing for their lives after a series of armed robberies hit the neighborhood.
Memphis Police are asking for the public’s help finding multiple men who robbed two different groups of people early Sunday morning.
The men, who police described as 20- to 30-year-old black men wearing dark hooded jackets and dark pants, robbed two people just before 2 a.m. Sunday, then robbed two more people only a few blocks away.
In the first robbery near Blythe and Young Avenue, the men pointed firearms at the victim, used physical force, then robbed the two people of their belongings, police said.
The suspects left that scene heading south on Blythe in a red or maroon four-door Nissan Maxima.
One resident said the suspects were aggressively knocking on her door before they robbed her neighbor. She said she was thankful she didn’t answer. Down the street, another resident said that around the same time of the robbery, someone kicked in his front door.
Police said they believe the same men robbed two other people only a couple of minutes later near New York and Young Avenue.
Police said the suspects were last seen going south on New York near Walker Avenue in the Nissan Maxima.
MPD released these still images from surveillance video showing the suspects and their vehicle.
Robin Perkins said she’s lived in Cooper-Young for nearly four years. She said she’s always felt comfortable and safe in her home, but after her neighbor was robbed at gunpoint, she’s rethinking everything.
“I didn’t move to Cooper-Young because it was the swanky place to be; I moved because of its safety,” Perkins said. “But now this is at my front door, and it makes me a little bit leery.”
Perkins said her neighbor was banging on her door begging for help.
“I came out; I saw that blood was everywhere,” she said. “His friend, at the time, she was crying hysterically.”
Police reports show the victims were heading back to their vehicles after leaving a local bar.
