Zaneta Lowe is an award-winning journalist with nearly 20 years of experience in the business. In April 2019, Zaneta became the Daybreak & Noon Anchor for WREG, while continuing her work as an investigative reporter.
Zaneta joined the News Channel 3 Team in 2011 as the station’s Chief Consumer Investigator.
Consistent with WREG’s mission, Zaneta’s work focuses on shining a light on problems, protecting families and holding the powerful accountable.
Her investigation into the unexplained deaths of children in the state’s care helped lead to an overhaul of the system and its public records policy.
Zaneta’s also exposed unscrupulous tax preparers, unlicensed car dealers, dangerous day cares and nursing homes, as well as substandard living conditions in taxpayer-funded housing.
As a member of WREG’s special projects team, Zaneta has done in-depth reporting on subjects like poverty and education, and worked on several special reports/documentaries exploring critical issues across the Mid-South. Memphis on a Mission, the team’s special report on race relations, economic barriers and criminal justice won a Mid-South Emmy in 2016. Their work on MLK 50, revealing the struggles and divide Memphis continues to face since Dr. King’s death, earned the team another Emmy nomination in 2018. Throughout her career, Zaneta has also been the recipient of Associated Press awards and multiple Emmy nominations.
Prior to her time at WREG, Zaneta worked as an anchor/reporter at WTVM in Columbus, GA where she launched the station’s consumer unit. She’s also worked at WVTM in Birmingham, AL; WJRD (now WVUA) in Tuscaloosa, AL and other media outlets in Alabama. Zaneta covered stories from the convictions of 16th Street Baptist Church bombers Bobby Frank Cherry and Thomas Blanton, to the deadly Alabama tornado outbreak of 2011.
Zaneta graduated cum laude, from the University of Alabama with a BA in Communications. She is married to Woodrow Lowe, Jr. They are the proud parents of three sons, Woodrow “Trey” III, Kyle and Wade. In her spare time, you’ll find Zaneta taking in one of her kids’ many baseball, basketball or football games…or school activities! She’s also a Team Read volunteer/tutor at Winchester Elementary.
