Greg Hurst

Greg is thrilled to finally be calling Memphis home. He’s been coming here for many years and now finally, he gets to sleep in his own bed.

Greg’s wife was born and raised in Memphis. They were married here. His oldest daughter got her Master’s degree from the University of Memphis, met a young man from Cookville, got married and settled in Memphis with their infant daughter. With a mother and father in law here, along with a sister and brother in law; and more family down the road in Little Rock, he’s looking forward to a great family reunion.

During his many years on the job, Greg Hurst has a wealth of experience covering stories around the world. Greg has been awarded a great deal of recognition for his work on and off the news set.

Greg’s coverage of the war with Iraq was highly regarded — from the time he spent in the Iraqi desert with United States Marines, to foot patrol expeditions with the 3rd Infantry Division Terror Squad during fire fights on the streets of Baghdad, to the eye opening tours through Saddam Hussein’s Presidential Palaces, Greg took viewers where few people have ever been.

Nationally and internationally, Greg has reported on everything from Washington politics, to the Pope in Mexico and Denver and New York, from plane crashes, to floods and hurricanes, Space Shuttle disasters, active shooter situations, bomb threats and much more. He’s traveled coast to coast to report on earthquakes in California and the World Trade Center bombing in New York.

Greg’s work has also taken him abroad, reporting from the Kremlin in Russia, to the ruins of war in Vietnam. His interest in politics has led him to serve as the moderator for numerous political debates, and has allowed him to cover numerous political conventions over the years.

Greg is also actively involved in the local community. He volunteers with many organizations like, the Lifeline Chaplaincy program, helping cancer patients at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He’s also worked with the Small Steps Nurturing Center, mentoring inner city children. Greg also devotes time to the Medina Children’s Home, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Star of Hope Homeless Shelter, the Cancer League, the American Heart Association and many others.

Greg comes to WREG from Houston, where he was the lead news anchor for the CBS News station many years. Prior to that Greg spent 10 years anchoring the news WABC-TV in New York. Greg was also a reporter and anchor at KFMB-TV in San Diego, California and began his broadcast career at KATV-TV in Little Rock, Arkansas.
